Run, don't walk, from this run-of-the-mill "boutique" in Neptune Beach, Florida. The elderly female owner goes on the attack against her OWN, LONG TERM customers, publicly accusing them of stealing her merchandise! Never in my life have I experienced anything such as I did today, nor been treated so rudely by the very person I have handed my credit card to over the years for her pathetic wares. That said, I entered the shop again today wearing a hat as I always do. I took it off naturally, when trying on new hats, and put it in on again, naturally, when leaving. You can imagine my shock when walking away from the store and Kae Kendall (store owner) comes RUNNING and SCREAMING after me, accusing me of having stolen her merchandise! She pointed to my hat and accused me of having stolen it, in full view of the public, watching on. In disbelief, I took the hat off and gladly showed it to her - that the inside rim was covered with about a year's worth of sweaty sunscreen and the hat was CLEARLY not new. In spite of these obvious facts, she STILL insisted on grabbing the hat from my hands, turning it over and over checking for price tags. All the while, I"m asking myself "is this person insane?" Rather than immediately apologizing, when seeing the clear error of her judgment, she still defended her conduct and offered nary a single apology. Shaken from this undeserved public accusation, I returned and walked back to the store where, to my further dismay, she was actually speaking about me to other customers as if I had stolen her property! I confronted her and demanded an apology; but rather than being apologetic, she kept defending her psychotic conduct. Ironically, THREE OTHER SHOPPERS in the store recognized me and said that they followed me into the store when first entering - AND THAT I WAS WEARING MY OWN HAT WHEN ENTERING (she kept trying to defend her conduct as saying I was without a hat when entering -which was, along with 100% of her conduct, entirely wrong.) In spite of clearly having bene proven wrong, not a single genuine apology or offer to somehow make things right. When a business owner goes on the attack against their own customers, in a public forum, without any basis, accusing them of stealing their merchandise, it's time to call it a day and close up shop. I find it telling that the Google review prior to mine had to do with a customer likewise being harassed when trying on hats. Seems Kendall's got a real fixation on "hats." Not only will I never shop at Beaches Town Center again on account of the unbelievable harassment by this shop owner, I will advise my friends and co-workers to steer clear of any center which allows such conduct to occur. I advise every reader to just head to St. Johns Town Center where, to my knowledge, shop owners are lucid, friendly, and capable of not only recognizing their very customers, but treating them properly.
